LASP/GASP

Based on statements from high level TSA officials made at NBAA’s annual conference, the new “Large Aircraft Security Program”  (LASP) is scheduled to be released in “notice of proposed rulemaking” form as early as January 2010.

Several changes have been leaked about the new version, including a name change to “General Aviation Security Program” or “GASP”.  Based upon industry input, the reported weight limit for aircraft requiring this security program has been raised significantly-  Latest reports have it at 30,000 pound MGTOW.  There is also information suggesting that a maximum fuel capacity will be considered when determining whether or not an aircraft must adopt GASP.

Details about the new GASP replacing existing programs such as the Private Charter and Twelve-Five Standard Security Programs are still scarce, but the primary intent of the GASP is to capture aircraft currently operating under Part 91.
